Feet are the foundation of posture

Think of your body like a house — if the foundation isn’t strong and stable, everything above it can shift, crack, or collapse. Your feet are that foundation.

When your feet are misaligned (subluxed) — whether from flat feet (loose), high arches (stiff) or poor control (too much rolling in or out) — your body tries to compensate which often causes strain in your ankles, knees, hips, and even your spine as it works to stay balanced.

This affects your posture and can lead to aches, pains, and bigger problems over time. Taking care of your feet means taking care of your whole body.

What is Structural Physiotherapy?

Structural physiotherapy is a unique and systemised assessment and treatment process aimed at correcting your posture and joint alignment. The treatment involves two crucial parts: Joint Mobilisation Therapy (JMT) and Corrective Exercises.

Each therapy session is designed to improve your symptoms and support your recovery by:

  • Helping your joints move more freely, with better flexibility
  • Improving your balance and coordination by waking up your body’s proprioception (balance) system
  • Strengthening the muscles around your joints allowing your nerves and muscles to function optimally
  • Reducing pain signals and muscle tension by gently stimulating the joints and nearby nerves
  • Promoting optimal posture to reduce overload to your muscles, tendons and joints

It is crucial to stick with the treatment plan to ensure you maintain optimal joint alignment while developing strength to support and keep the joints stable.

The three-step journey to
pain-free feet

Align it

When joints shift, rotate or drop out of position, we call it “subluxation”. Misaligned feet lead to misaligned joints further up the body. When the feet are aligned everything up the chain functions better.

Support it

As we realign your feet and legs through mobilisation, we also retrain the surrounding muscles to support your joints properly and keep everything in the right place — so the results last.

Maintain it

By now your pain and symptoms have improved and you are back to doing the things you love. Prevent your problem from returning by attending maintenance treatment — “Prevention is better than a cure”.

We Specialise in Treating These Common Foot and Ankle Conditions

Bunions (Hallux Valgus)

Joint Mobilisation Therapy can be a highly effective way to treat bunions—without the need for surgery.

Heel Pain

Cortisone injections may offer short-term relief, but they don’t fix the root cause — treat the cause, not the symptoms.

Plantar Fasciitis

Do you experience severe morning heel pain? Stop suffering with every step. Get relief now.

Frequently Asked Questions

JMT is a non-surgical system designed to realign subluxed joints and hold them in the correct positions so that tissues can function properly.

There are a number of painful conditions which are caused by subluxations of the joints of the feet. When the joints are out of alignment it is necessary to realign the joints in order to stop the damage and allow the body to heal.

Subluxation means misalignment of the joints. If a joint has shifted, rotated or dropped this is known as a subluxed joint.

Orthotics have traditionally been used as a way to move the joints into a different position. Typically a “neutral” foot position. Orthotics can work really well for some people and don’t work at all for others.

Orthotics are like scaffolding of a house. You wouldn’t want to permanently live in a house that was held up by scaffolding, you would want to have the foundations fixed properly.

Rather than treating pain after a flare up, it makes more sense to ensure the joints are always correctly aligned so that you can participate in all activities without pain.

It is the same as going to your dentist for a check-up or mechanic for a service. It is always better to do maintenance.

The feet are the foundations of the body. In the same way that a house needs a strong foundation otherwise it will fall over, your body needs a strong foundation otherwise you will develop compensations and experience pain.

When there is misalignment (subluxation) in the joints of the feet, this will have a knock-on effect to everything above the feet. All muscles and tissues in the lower limb rely on the feet to provide a solid foundation.
